Five senses: Taste

What a "Sense"-sational week!
Learning about our five senses was so much fun. We ended our week exploring our sense of taste. What better, than a science experiment.

Science Experiment

Found this yummy idea on pinterest.

Hi, I'm Nathalie and I'm a pintrest addict :)

Our sorbet flavors ( dairy allergies in my class)

five senses taste sorbet preschool learning
I had them concentrate on their sense of taste, by closing their eyes.

I would encourage them by saying, " close your eyes, use your sense of taste. Move your tongue around, is the flavor sweet, sour, bitter?  Focus and help your brain figure out the flavor by using your sense of taste"

I split my kids up into 3 groups. I was lucky and had a parent helper and an aid.
Some flavors they liked, and some they didn't

I would have them guess the flavor and then "drum roll" as I revealed the mystery flavor.

ENJOY HAVE A GREAT DAY!

The kids had to find the matching sound. Here are a few things I used to make them: quarters, wood beads, rice, plastic beads. I made a few variations with the same materials to manipulate the sounds

Five Senses: Sight

Exploring Sight
video

To introduce what the five senses are and what they are used for, I started circle time with this short song/video clip.

GAME: I SPY
I spy with my little eye, something smooth, bouncy and red.
What am I?

We played I Spy outside and as well as indoors.

GAME: WHAT'S MISSING?
This was a spin off of I spy
What's missing five senses game SIGHT
TRAY full of items

Have the kids close their eyes. Take an item and hide it, then let them guess. Make it harder by adding more objects to your tray.

After a few tries I had the children take turns, taking something and having them ask their classmates "What's Missing?"

They LOVED taking turns.

We also made glasses to emphasize that we use our eyes to see things around us.
