There are so many ways to play this game to make it fun and educational. You can practice these colors in Spanish- Amarillo, rojo, verde
or
spell them out G-O, GO!GO!

It can also be fun to have each color be a different move like hop, tiptoe, skip, jumping jacks. Their jumping jacks are in progress, but hilarious to watch!
My kids like doing "random" sometimes I shout S-T-O-P STOP, then the next time I will say verde.

Modify for more advance children by having them practice the sound each car makes. This activity can be altered in so many fun ways, such as:

They decorated a person and we talked about the different shades of color people come in. We also discussed the similarities and difference between each other, and how its OKAY to be different :)

First we had an experiment, brown egg vs. white egg.

Afterwards, we baked cupcakes to celebrate Dr. Kings Birthday ( a little early... but who doesn't like cupcakes?)

How to teach segregation and injustice to preschoolers

Making vocabulary stick and mean something is something I always try very hard to do each week. I started our morning by passing our colored dots.

This is similar to the colored eye classroom experiment. I had a few different scenarios and discussed if each activity was just, or unjust. They quickly understood the meaning behind that word. I also segregated them by color of dot for other daily classroom activities. None of my kids were upset, and I reminded them that this was just pretend and an experiment to find out how people a long time ago felt.

Who was Martin Luther King Jr.?

Introducing Martin Luther King Jr. to my preschoolers was a lot of fun. I decided to do it the week so that they would know why we get Monday off next week.

For circle time I asked the children what they think a hero is, then briefly talked about MLK and why many people consider him a hero. Afterwards I went around and asked the children who  in their life do they consider a hero. I got some great answers :)

LANGUAGE ARTS

We read, Thank you Dr. King and talked about what his dream was. Then learned a song about not fighting, this is one of my and the kids favorites.

Learning about animals that hibernate and migrate went better than I anticipated. All of the children enjoyed pretending to be animals that migrate and “traveled” throughout the playground to find a warmer climate. 

 

Each had the opportunity to choose what animal they wanted to be, get their blankets, and hibernate till “spring”. They woke up to doughnuts, and hot chocolate, to satisfy their winter-long hunger.

Christmas Assessments

It's that time of the year when I need to start my assessments.

 

I've done fun games in the past, but this year my kids looooove stickers more than anything.
